Painting water on UART! Whether the subject is quiet streams in the woods, boats and their reflections in a harbor, foliage reflecting on ponds, or waterways winding through marshes, water is a fascinating subject to paint. Water reflections are also a fun and approachable way to get into abstraction. It is not nearly as challenging as you would think to paint water!
We will use value, color, and variations of mark-making to enable you to paint convincing water and reflections with confidence and energy, and have a lot of fun in the process. We will also work on composition and value, using thumbnails and value studies, so that your paintings will have that dynamic POP!
My process uses underpainting with pastels and alcohol wash on sanded paper. I typically use UART, and will have some available if needed. I will do a demo at the start of the day, and another in the afternoon. Expect to complete 2-3 finished works in the course of the day.
Please bring your own reference photos – more than you think you’ll need. Since the subject of this workshop is water painting, please be sure to include some water, reflections, and some strong light.
