3-day Phoenix Workshop with Lee McVey: The Artful Landscape

Experience lots of one on one attention and encouragement as you develop your painting skills while working from landscape reference photos. Improve your ability to see and to extract the information from photographs needed to create a successful painting. Explore compositional design, color, value and aerial perspective and more. For beginners with drawing experience to intermediate and advanced students.

Lee McVey
Lee is a signature member of Pastel Society of America, Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, Pastel Society of New Mexico, Plein Air Artists of Colorado, Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod, and Sierra Pastel Society. Her pastels have been featured in full-length articles in the magazines Pastel Journal, American Artist, and International Artist. Lee’s work is featured in Professional Artist magazine and in the books Plein Air New Mexico and 100 Ways to Paint the Landscape. From 2006 – 2011, Lee has co-organized and co-curated the annual invitational landscape painting exhibit, Open Space: A View with Room, for Albuquerque’s Open Space Visitor Center. In 2012 one of her paintings was awarded an honorable mention in the landscape category in Pastel Journal’s Pastel 100 competition. She was a finalist in the Landscape/Interior category in The Artist Magazine’s 27th Annual Competition.

In 2003, Lee retired from teaching elementary art to devote more time to her art career. Along with school teaching, she taught pastel classes at Kirkland Art Center in Clinton, NY and Cooperstown Art Association in Cooperstown, NY. Lee is now a resident of Albuquerque, NM. She now enjoys painting and teaching pastel as a full time artist.
