Welcome to UART 2020 Online Colored Pencil Competition. The competition is open to all colored pencil artists around the world. The competition is open until November 2nd, 2020. Please scroll down for competition’s rules and info on how to submit drawings. Accepted pieces will be announced on November 10th and winners will be announced on November 17th.

Juror

John Middick

John Middick is an art instructor and award-winning colored pencil artist. He’s the driving force behind the Sharpened Artist business and the Sharpened Artist Academy.  He’s been working as an instructor for several years with a strong focus on drawing fundamentals and portraiture. He’s an active member of the Colored Pencil Society of America and The Portrait Society of America. He’s been published in several magazines and online publications. He’s the creator and host of the highly-rated Sharpened Artist podcast; A show dedicated to the art of colored pencil and exclusive interviews with colored pencil artists. John has a passion for helping colored pencil artists achieve their greatest potential through his social media channels, the Monthly Sharpener community, the online academy, and through personal art mentoring.

Competition's Rules

The competition is open to colored pencil artists over the age of 16 all over the world. Please read carefully all the rules below to make sure your drawings meet the entry requirements. Failure to adhere to the rules will lead to disqualification.

  1. Drawings must be done on UART paper only. We will not accept drawings made on any other surfaces
  2. Drawings must be done in colored or pastel pencil. Works including mixed media have to be 80% colored or pastel pencil.
  3. Drawings must be original, not copied from other artists or published materials.
  4. All drawings must be originally drawn and not created on top of a base photo or print.
  5. All drawings must have been created within the last 12 months.
  6. Fees are: - $19 for the first submission - $7 for each additional submission - No limits on submissions - Fees are non-refundable. Please make sure to double check art before uploading. - Please upload all your pictures at once to take advantage of the $7 additional fee.
  7. Please make sure to add a title to each drawing submitted. Drawings submitted without titles will not be considered into the competition
  8. We will only accept jpeg or png files in 72dpi. Please make sure your files do not exceed 2mb.
